A converted high school quarterback who had a breakout season in 2008 ... Completed his first season as a starter at middle linebacker with 90 tackles to rank second on the team and No. 18 in the Big 12 in that category ... His development was one of the top storylines for the Cowboys in 2008,
2008 (Junior): Recorded 90 tackles to finish second on the team in that category ... Was third on the team with 54 solo tackles and third with eight pass break-ups ... Started all 13 games in the middle of the Cowboy defense ...Tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles and tied for second on the team lead with two fumble recoveries ... Reached double figures in tackles three times with 10 at Colorado, and at Washington State ... Had a season-high 12 tackles at Missouri, where he also had two tackles behind the line of scrimmage, a pass break-up and blocked a field goal attempt ... Registered eight tackles against OU and Texas and seven against Texas A&M and Iowa State ... Against the Cyclones he also had a tackle for a three-yard loss and a pass break-up ... High School: Was ranked as one of the top 60 overall prospects in the state of Texas ... As a quarterback, he passed for 1,214 yards and 14 touchdowns his senior season while rushing for 600 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns ... Guided Yates High School through a playoff run ...
