Andrews Wins Long; Triple Jumps at Tulsa Invitational

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State women's track and field team opened the 2009 outdoor season at the Tulsa Invitational on Saturday, with Clarissa Andrews providing the highlight of the day with a mark of 12.49 meters in the triple jump.
The jump easily passes the regional qualifying standard of 12.32 meters, but does not qualify Andrews for the event because the wind speed was over the limitation. It did give Andrews a personal record, as well as a first-place finish in the event.
Andrews also finished first and set a personal record in the long jump, reaching a distance of 5.82 meters.
Merritt Dietz, who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the discus last year, claimed second place in both the discus and shot put, posting marks of 46.89 meters and 13.82 meters, respectively. She qualified for the regional in both events last season.
Oklahoma State's track highlights came from a pair of third-place finishers, including Teran Mixon, who ran a time of 10:35.61 in the 3,000 meters, and Kendra Woodson, who finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.77.
The Cowgirls return to action next weekend for the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
