Cowgirls Begin Outdoor Season at Tulsa Invitational

STILLWATER, Okla. Â The Oklahoma State women's track and field team begins its 2009 outdoor season on Saturday when it competes at the Tulsa Invitational, held at the University of Tulsa's Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
Several teams are set to compete at the event, including Bradley, Kansas State, Langston, Northwest Missouri State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and UMKC.
Oklahoma State looks to continue building on last year's success, sending 10 athletes to the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in 2008.
The Cowgirls are strongly represented in this year's Tulsa Invitational, with at least one athlete competing in 14 different events.
Merritt Dietz returns to compete in the discus after hitting an Olympic Trials qualifying mark last yea,r when she threw a school-record 56.18 meters at the Kansas Relays. She also hit a regional qualifying mark in the shot put last season.
Brandi Andrews, Heather Estetter and Leah Schroeder will run in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, with Teran Mixon joining them in the 3,000, while Tekeisha Lewis looks to perform well in the sprints, running in the 100- and 200-meter dash.
The hammer throw, the only event scheduled for Friday, will take place at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Oklahoma State, where Courtney Gougler and Julie Rader will compete for the Cowgirls.
The rest of the meet, held at Tulsa, is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the field events, while the track events will follow at 2:00 p.m.
