Cowgirl Equestrian Topples Auburn on Senior Day

The Oklahoma State Equestrian team sent its seniors out in fashion on Saturday at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater. The sixth-ranked Cowgirls beat second-ranked Auburn 11-9, while picking up three MVPs in the season finale. Oklahoma State finishes the regular season with a 7-5 record with a 3-3 mark in Big 12 competition.

The seniors that were recognized were Lexi Archer, Charlotte Collingsworth, Sam Collingsworth, Lindsay Filkins, Lauren Huffaker, Catie Maquet, Cristen Morris, Jaclyn Osterstock, Jordan Pickelman, Jacque Roberts, Stacy Sexton, Devon Smithburg, Leigha Stevenson, Misty Stutsman and Sarah Summers.

The Cowgirls pulled off a 6-4 victory in the Western portion of the competition. The victory gives Oklahoma State a 7-4 record in Western competition. The Cowgirls won both disciplines, 3-2. In horsemanship the Cowgirls gained wins from senior Jordan Pickelman, sophomore Courtney Whitacre and freshman Nichole Chirico. Whitacre picked up her eighth victory and fourth MVP this year. Pickelman leads the team with nine wins this season while Chirico has earned five.

In reining, junior Rachell Shobe earned the MVP while picking up her seventh win this season. Senior Jacque Roberts earned her eighth win this season while freshman Bri Parnell improved to 8-2 with her win today.

“Today was a big win for our team,” said Associate Head Coach Suzanne Flaig. “It gives us great momentum heading into postseason competition. Auburn was a talented team performing well, it was great for us to prevail in the end.”

The Cowgirls tied in the English portion, 5-5 which gives them a 6-5-1 record. Oklahoma State dominated the equitation on the flat discipline, 4-1. Senior Sam Collingsworth picked up the MVP in the discipline which is her third this season and she has amounted a 9-2-1 record this year. Senior Charlotte Collingsworth and junior Ally Blais amassed their 10^th wins this season while freshman Jordan White picked up her fifth win of the year. Senior Jaclyn Osterstock earned the only win for the Cowgirls in equitation over fence, which was her fifth of the season.

The Cowgirls will be in action when they show at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater on March 27-28.
