Cowboys Finish Third At Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico ÂOklahoma State's men's golf team wrapped up its first event of the spring on Sunday with a 280 team score to finish in third place at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club's River Course.
The Cowboys' 8-under final round moved them up one spot into sole possession of third. OSU concluded play with a 54-hole score of 848, 16-under par, and five shots clear of Texas. Georgia cruised to the team title with a 38-under total of 826, while Clemson finished in the runner-up spot at 838.
Georgia's Hudson Swafford and Texas' Dylan Fritelli shared medalist honors at 12-under 204.
A trio of Cowboys finished under par for the event with sophomore Rickie Fowler and freshman Morgan Hoffmann leading the way with 211 totals. Fowler closed with a 1-under 71, while Hoffmann fired the squad's low round of the event, finishing with a 67 to get to his 5-under tally.
Senior Trent Leon also earned a top-20 finish after carding a 72 during Round Three. Leon's even-par score was good for a tie for 13th at 213.
Sophomore Kevin Tway carded his second consecutive 73 on Sunday and finished tied for 25th place at 216.
Sharing 25th place with Tway was fellow sophomore Mark Johnson who carded a 2-under 70 to get to his even-par total.
The Cowboys will resume play on March 13 when they take part in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas.
