Post-Game Quotes From OSU Coach John Smith
On losing three bouts in sudden victory:
“The team we competed with wanted it a little bit more. It seems like we've been in these matches and in crunch time we look more like cowards than people that want to win.”
On the dual:
“It was a humiliating loss for us. I can't get much worse than winning the first two and dropping the next eight.”
On the effort of Newly McSpadden:
“I thought Newly wrestled well. I think the weight and the size and the strength wore him down a little bit. He has to get in better shape to be able to do something at that weight.”
On Oklahoma State tradition:
“The one thing about this group that keeps coming back is tradition. Our tradition is haunting them and they're just having a hard time dealing with it. Until they accept what we're supposed to do then we'll struggle like that and I think tonight was just a matter of ÂHey are we going to lose two matches in a row here again?' We are Oklahoma State and in the end they're struggling handling what their responsibilities are. Whether you're good or not, you should have a little more fight in the attitude because of who you wrestle for.
On what some of the keys were to the dual:
“We were flat tonight and we seemed to be wrestling with just a total lack of awareness of what we need to be doing, from set-ups to hand fighting to scrambles. We got killed in scrambles tonight. When we get to the leg and the action really starts, we got beat up tonight on scrambles.”
