Cowgirl Soccer Adds Five In 2009 Recruiting Class
STILLWATER, Okla. Â The Oklahoma State Cowgirls have signed five players to their 2009 recruiting class, it was announced today by OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
Carmichael received signatures from four top high school players, while also adding a mid-year transfer from the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada.
“It's a very good class that fills some of the needs left by our graduating seniors,” Carmichael said. “All the kids coming in have a chance to help us improve immediately, and we're very happy with our 2009 signees.”
The following is a breakdown of OSU's signees.
Andrea Carlson, F/MF, Tulsa, Okla. (Jenks HS) - Carlson was a member of Oklahoma's Olympic Development Program from 2004-08. She has played for the Hurricane Futball Club '92 under coach Kerry Shubert since 2005 and led the squad to the Oklahoma state championship each of the last three years. The Hurricane '92 was a USYSA Region III finalist in 2007.
Carlson led Jenks High School to the Class 6A quarterfinals in 2007 and 2008.
Carmichael on Carlson: “Andrea is a good athlete who plays wide forward or wide midfielder. She has good pace, is tricky and can beat people. She has the ability to come in and compete for minutes as a forward or midfielder.”
Adrianna Franch, GK, Salina, Kan. (South HS) - A three-year member of the Kansas ODP team, Franch was also on the Region II ODP Team and was an ODP National Pool player in 2006. At the club level, she led the KC Comets Select to a Kansas state championship in 2006 and to the Kansas state finals in 2007 and 2008.
At the high school level, Franch has been the starting goalie in each of her first three seasons at South High School and has earned first-team All-State, All-Southwest Region and All-League honors as well as league MVP. Franch is also a star on the basketball court, where she is a three-time letterwinner and an honorable mention All-State performer.
Carmichael on Franch: “Adrianna is one of the most gifted athletes we've ever recruited. Athletically, she is ready to play in the Big 12 immediately. She'll have a chance to compete for minutes at goalkeeper right off the bat.”
Megan Marchesano, F/MF, Tulsa, Okla. (Bixby HS) - Marchesano is a member of the Lonestars Soccer Club '91, which earned a No. 8 national ranking in 2008 and was the Regional Premier League winner under coach J.D. Cochran. She spent 2004-07 as a member of the Oklahoma and Region III ODP teams and was in the USYSA U-14 National Identification Camp in 2005.
Marchesano was named the Bixby High School Offensive Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 and has earned a spot on the All-Metro team three times. As a freshman, she racked up 16 goals and 18 assists.
Carmichael on Marchesano: “Megan is very dangerous 1 v. 1. She's a very good athlete who likes to run at people and take people on. She's a very good player who has a chance to play up front right from the get go.”
Carson Michalowski, D, Plano, Texas (Plano HS) - Michalowski has played on the NTSSA ODP Team since 2003 and helped lead the squad to a national championship in 2007. Also a member of the Dallas Texans Soccer Club, Michalowski starred under coach Ryan Higginbotham, and as a starting center back helped the Texans win the 2008 USYS U-17 national championship. She also helped the team to a U-16 national runner-up finish in 2007 and a third-place showing at the U-15 nationals.
Carmichael on Michalowski: “Carson is a real winner. She's been on a very successful club team, and she's a big part of why that team has had so much success. She's an uncompromising center-back who likes to tackle and is very aggressive and very good in the air.”
Amanda Robinson, D, Fredrickton, New Brunswick, Canada (University of Ottawa) - Robinson transferred to OSU at the end of the fall semester after two years at the University of Ottawa. She spent last fall as a member of the Canadian Women's U-20 National Team.
At the collegiate level, Robinson was named first-team All-Canadian and earned MVP honors for Ontario University Athletics East. She scored seven goals, including three games winners, and was fifth in scoring in the Ontario University Athletics League.
Robinson played in 23 games as a member of the Laval Cometes of the USL W-League in the summer of 2007 and 2008.
Carmichael on Robinson: “Amanda is a very experienced player. The fact that she's here for the spring semester gives her an advantage and a good head start. She should be equipped to play in the Big 12 right away.”
