Abraham Ekal

A former NCAA All-American, Abraham Ekal is in his third year as the director of cross country and track & field operations at Oklahoma State University after assisting in that area for one year prior to his promotion.
Ekal's behind-the-scenes duties prove invaluable to the success of the women's cross country and track and field programs as he is involved in a wide variety of tasks.
As the director of operations, Ekal coordinates the day-to-day operations of the track office. His responsibilities include making travel arrangements, organizing recruiting visits, monitoring student grades and managing all equipment matters.
Ekal spent time working as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas at El Paso. While at UTEP, Ekal worked under 1988 Olympic gold medalist Paul Ereng.
UTEP's men's cross country team dominated the Conference USA championships and earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA Cross Country Championships, where the Miners finished 14th. Two of Ekal's runners, Stephen Samoei and Japheth Ng'Ojoy were named NCAA All-Americans at the meet.
The team also included NCAA steeplechase champion Mircea Bogdan and Patrick Mutai, the 2005 Conference USA cross-country champion.
Ekal is a 2004 graduate of Southern Methodist University where he earned his bachelor's degree in journalism. He was the opinion editor and a member of the editorial board for the SMU Daily Campus.
A middle distance runner on SMU's nationally-ranked track and field and cross country teams, Ekal was a perennial scorer for the Mustangs. He ran the 800-meter, 1500-meter, and was a member of the distance medley relay that finished fourth at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships.
A talented athlete, Ekal earned numerous awards as a prep runner in El Paso, Texas. He was recruited by numerous schools but chose SMU based on the school's great academic reputation.
While at SMU, Ekal had an impressive freshman campaign, running on SMU's DMR at Drake Relays. Ekal was on SMU's Western Athletic Conference champion team, which included the NCAA 3000-meter indoor record holder, Alistair Cragg.
Ekal who is USATF Level I certified, is currently working on his master's degree at Oklahoma State University.
