Cowboys Begin Spring Season At Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico —Oklahoma State's men's golf team will tee it up for the first time this spring when it begins play at the Puerto Rico Classic on Friday at Rio Mar Country Club's River Course.
The third-ranked Cowboys will be one of 15 teams in action at the par-72, 6,902-yard layout this weekend. The event will consist of 54 holes with 18 holes being played Friday through Sunday. Tee times on Friday and Saturday will begin at 8 a.m., while Sunday's final round will get underway at 7:30 a.m.
The Cowboys have won the event on one occasion, emerging victorious in 2003 after carding a 2-under 862 team total.
OSU will be led by senior Trent Leon, who currently mans the No. 1 spot in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Joining Leon in the top 10 is sophomore Rickie Fowler, who is ranked sixth nationally. Both players were recently named to the Ben Hogan Award watch list, an honor given to the nation's top player.
Fowler, who won the award last year, got an early start to his spring slate, tying for 58th place earlier this month at the PGA Tour's FBR Open.
Also competing for the Cowboys in Puerto Rico will be freshman Morgan Hoffmann and sophomores Kevin Tway and Mark Johnson.
