Cowboys Win Pair Of Games To Improve To 3-0

STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State picked up a pair of wins Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium as the 13th-ranked Cowboys knocked off Manhattan, 11-7, before earning a 5-4 victory over BYU.
Davis Duren sparked the Cowboys with three RBIs in the win over Manhattan, while Andrew Oliver and Thomas Keeling delivered strong performances on the mound to lift OSU to a 3-0 record with a win over the Cougars.
Against Manhattan (1-2), the Cowboys fell behind 3-0 after the first half inning. But coach Frank Anderson's club battled back with two runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third to take command.
In the second frame, Duren provided an RBI on a fielder's choice to tie the score at 3-3, and Tom Belza put the Cowboys ahead with a two-RBI single. The hit also extended Belza's career-long hitting streak to 16 games.
OSU managed four runs on just one hit in the third by taking advantage of a pair of errors by the Jaspers. Duren and Dusty Harvard each had RBI walks in the frame.
Jared Starks came on in relief of starter Tyler Blandford and picked up his first-career win as the senior right-hander worked three innings and allowed just two runs.
Freshman Randy McCurry came on in a jam in the eighth and worked the final 1.2 innings for the first save of his career. McCurry entered the game with the bases loaded and one out and OSU leading 9-5 and recorded a strikeout and a groundout to squash the Jaspers' rally.
Against BYU, Oliver showed why he's a preseason All-American. The junior left-hander racked up 11 strikeouts to tie a career high, and he allowed just one earned run on two hits in six innings of work.
Oliver struck out the first five batters he faced and struck out the side in the both the first and second innings en route to tying his career-best 11-strikeout effort, which he previously set against Baylor in last season's Big 12 Championship.
OSU took an early 1-0 lead in its first at bat on a sacrifice fly by Neil Medchill, but the Cougars (1-3) answered with a run in the top of the third to tie the score.
It remained 1-1 until the fifth when the Cowboys scored four times. Medchill broke the tie with a bases-loaded walk, and an RBI infield single by Doug Kroll made the score 3-1. OSU added two more runs on an RBI walk by Dean Green and Tyrone Hambly's fielder's choice RBI.
BYU battled back with runs in the seventh and ninth frames off Keeling, but the sophomore southpaw struck out Stetson Banks with the tying run on first base to end the game.
Keeling allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four in three innings of work for the first save of his career.
OSU closes out their season-opening homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against Manhattan on Sunday.
