February 22, 2009 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State remained perfect on the young season with a 13-1 win over Manhattan Sunday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Junior pitcher Tyler Lyons worked six strong innings on the mound for the Cowboys, while Neil Medchill and Doug Kroll led the offensive attack as OSU improved to 4-0.
Lyons held the Jaspers (1-3) hitless over the first three innings and surrendered just two hits in six scoreless innings while striking out five. He has now won 11-straight decisions dating back to last season.
Medchill and Kroll provided plenty of offense as the duo combined for five hits and seven RBIs.
OSU got on the scoreboard in its first at bat on an RBI groundout by Medchill that plated Rafael Thomas, who walked four times in the contest and scored twice.
In the third, it was Medchill again providing the Cowboys' runs, this time via the long ball as he blasted a three-run home run to right-centerfield. Medchill's shot was OSU's first homer of the season and gave the home team a 4-0 lead.
The Cowboys put the game away in the fifth inning with a five-run rally. Kroll got the scoring started with a two-run homer, the first of his OSU career, and back-to-back RBI triples by Dean Green and Tyrone Hambly made the score 8-0. OSU's final run of the frame came on an RBI single by Tom Belza.
Kroll, who finished the contest 3-for-5 with three RBIs, blasted his second homer of the game in the sixth.
Medchill finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Davis Duren also had two hits in four trips to the plate and collected two RBIs.
Freshman Uriah Fisher picked up a save in the first appearance of his collegiate career as he worked the final three innings and allowed one run on two hits.
OSU returns to action Thursday when the Cowboys travel to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina before a weekend appearance at the Keith LeClair Classic hosted by ECU.
