Post-Game Quotes
OSU Coach John Smith
“Overall not the greatest two matches we've wrestled, but definitely what you're hoping for. You're hoping for an escape out of the matches without somebody wrestling poorly and getting upset and I thought we did that.”
“Some of the wins were towards the end of the third period. There was not a lot of action until we felt a sense of urgency at the end to score.”
Regarding the performance of Chris Notte against Wyoming's Cory VomBaur:
“133 I thought was a tough match. He (Chris Notte) got in on the legs and struggled. He got a little bit frustrated there but he pieced it together there at the end to win the match and I thought that was good.”
On OSU's continued struggles at 184 pounds:
“That Wyoming kid was just a flat good wrestler. He really made us look a little bit silly, but it's still definitely a weight class that we're looking for any kind of help and the first sign that anybody gives us is going to get the starting job for the rest of the year.”
“The last four out of five matches we've lost, so I think we forgot how to dominate certain opponents.”
Sophomore Clayton Foster
On winning both of his matches:
“It feels pretty good. I'm kind of mad I didn't get the pin in the first match, and then in the second match I got the major (decision). The guy was tough to turn but I am still mad I didn't tech or pin him too.”
On the tenacity of his wrestling
“That's just how we train. We keep on stretching the score and stuff. That's how I train so I have to wrestle that way out there.”
On facing Oklahoma next Sunday
“We have to beat them. I really want to beat them. Last time some people weren't sure about themselves but now I think we're going to beat them.”
Senior Brandon Mason
On facing Oklahoma next Sunday
“I've got to go out and do my job. Last time I won, but it was 1-0 and that's not the way I need to wrestle. It's not about winning, it's about having a good performance for yourself and it wasn't a good performance last time so I need to improve on that.”
On his match against Binghamton's Ryan McGarity
“Coach wanted me to get the pin. After I reversed it he said ÂWe have to get the fall now', so I just tried to work to get the pin and ended up getting it.”
On his match against Wyoming's Alex Rieder
“I would have liked to get the pin, but I felt like I wrestled pretty well. Coach Branch seemed like he had worked some things on bottom with the kid to try to catch me in some things and I felt like I did a decent job on top.”
“We're right there where we can achieve greatness, we just have to go out there and take it. You can't really say we're on a roll now. We need to go and continue to perform against OU and at Big 12 and then at Nationals.”
