Two Cowboys Named To Hogan Award Watch List

NORMAN, Okla. ÂTwo members of the Oklahoma State's men's golf team have been named to the watch list for the 2009 Ben Hogan Award it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association. Sophomore Rickie Fowler and senior Trent Leon both appear on this year's list.
The Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
Last year, Fowler became the first freshman winner in the history of the award. The Murrieta, Calif., native competed in three fall events this season for the Cowboys, tallying a pair of top 10s. Fowler is currently ranked ninth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and recently competed in the PGA Tour's FBR Open, tying for 58th place.
Leon has finished in the top 10 in both of his starts during the fall season, tying for seventh at the Fighting Illini Invitational and posting a third-place showing at the Ping/Golfweek Preview. The Dallas, Texas native currently holds the top spot in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. A two-time honorable mention All-American, Leon advanced to match play last summer at the U.S. Amateur.
The Hogan Award semifinalists will be announced April 16. The three finalists named on May 7 will be invited to Colonial Country Club in Fourth Worth, Texas, for the Hogan Award presentation on the evening of May 22.
