STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State will be making a school-record fourth consecutive postseason bowl appearance after accepting an invitation to the 2010 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, the bowl's selection committee announced today.
Coach Mike Gundy's Cowboys will battle Mississippi in the 74th Cotton Bowl matchup on Jan. 2, 2010 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. and will be televised live by Fox.
OSU enters the game with a 9-3 record and looks to tie a school record with their 10th win of the season. Gundy's squad finished Big 12 play with a school-record six conference wins and is currently ranked 18th in the USA Today Coaches' Poll and 21st by the Associated Press.
Ole Miss finished the regular season with an 8-4 record, including a 4-4 mark in the Southeastern Conference. OSU has faced the Rebels just once before, that coming in the 2004 Cotton Bowl. The Eli Manning-led Rebels emerged a 31-28 winner in that game despite 11 catches for 223 yards by Cowboy All-American Rashaun Woods.
OSU has won two of its last three postseason bowl games and is 12-7 all time in 19 previous bowl appearances. The .632 bowl winning percentage is the highest of any Big 12 Conference team and ranks fourth nationally.
The Cowboys, who will be making their seventh bowl trip in the last eight years, will also be making their third appearance in the Cotton Bowl. Prior to the '04 game, Oklahoma A&M routed TCU, 34-0, behind the play of Bob Fenimore in the 1945 Cotton Bowl.
Gundy is participating in his ninth bowl game at OSU as either a player, assistant coach or head coach, and he is 5-3 in those capacities.
