STILLWATER, Okla. - After intercepting two passes, breaking up an additional three passes and logging a tackle for a loss in No. 12 Oklahoma State's win over Texas Tech on Saturday, cornerback Perrish Cox was recognized as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today.
A Thorpe Award semifinalist who leads the nation in passes defended with 2.11 per game, Cox was honored as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week after the Cowboys' win over Georgia earlier this season.
Cox has intercepted three passes in OSU's last two games and has emerged as perhaps the nation's top defensive back as the season has progressed. He was selected as a midseason first-team All-America corner by SI.com, Phil Steele and College Football News.
In addition to his own special teams honor earlier in the year, Cox joins teammates Hubert Anyiam (Oct. 19) and Dez Bryant (Sept. 14) as Cowboys to earn Big 12 weekly honors this season. He is the first Cowboy to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week since Andre Sexton won the honor after the Pokes' win at Missouri in 2008.
Cox and the Cowboys return to action this Thursday when they host Colorado at Boone Pickens Stadium in a nationally-televised Big 12 clash on ESPN.
