Cowgirls Top Baylor For Fourth-Straight Win

STILLWATER, Okla. - Kyndall Treadwell's goal in the 22nd minute was the difference as Oklahoma State closed Big 12 Conference play with a 1-0 win over Baylor Sunday afternoon at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
With the win, the fourth in a row for the Cowgirls, OSU improved to 11-7 overall and ends Big 12 play with a 5-5 mark. Coach Colin Carmichael's squad is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings and is assured of a berth in next week's Big 12 Soccer Championship in San Antonio.
"It was a scrappy Sunday game as most Sunday games in the Big 12 are," Carmichael said. "We did just enough to win it. We didn't dominate, but we did what we had to do in a tight game."
With 22 minutes gone in the match, Annika Niemeier beat several Bear defenders and sent a pass to Treadwell, who blasted a left-footed shot from 12-yards out past BU goalie Gianna Quintanna for the game's lone goal. The goal was Treadwell's fourth of the season, while Niemeier recorded her team-leading fourth assist on the play.
"(Niemeier) is always getting other people opportunities, and I was just there to take the shot," Treadwell said. "I was just shooting it and hoping it went in."
Added Carmichael, "We talked about the forwards needing to produce more, and Krista (Lopez) got a goal Friday and Kyndall got one today. It was great they could step up and score. We've kind of relied on midfielders and defenders to get it done. For Kyndall to step up and get the game winner, hopefully that gives her a little more confidence in front of the goal."
In a match in which both teams had nine shots, OSU freshman goalie AD Franch came up big late to keep the Bears off the scoreboard.
At the 76:38 mark, BU's Lisa Sliwinski beat the defense and sent a shot towards the far post. But a diving Franch got a hand on the ball and deflected it off the post to keep the Bears from recording the equalizer.
Franch's third and final save of the match helped her record her second shutout in a row and Big 12-leading eighth of the season.
OSU concludes the regular season Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Cowgirls host Utah.
