STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State freshman wrestler J.J. Goblet (Schoharie, N.Y.) is one of four national finalists in diversified agricultural production for the FFA. As a finalist, he will travel to Indianapolis to take part in the FFA's national convention from Oct. 21-24, where he and the other finalists will go through several interviews that will determine the winner.
The FFA is one of the nation's largest youth farming and agricultural organization and was formerly known as Future Farmers of America.
Goblet, the 2008 New York State Star Farmer, won the 2008 award for diversified livestock production. To become a national finalist for diversified agricultural production this year, he won on the district level, then again on the state level. Should he be recognized as the winner this year, he will receive an FFA scholarship.
"We're proud of J.J. for performing at such a high level in his chosen area," Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith said. "He's an outstanding young man and we're glad he's part of our program."
Goblet's chosen field, diversified agricultural production is the most popular area within FFA. It entails producing and marketing a combination of livestock and crop-related proficiencies. Goblet produces beef, sheep, hogs, honeybees, berries, birdhouse gourds and maple syrup.
On the mat, Goblet is getting ready for his first year with the Cowboys. He compiled a 156-27 record during his high school career that was capped by a 35-2 record his senior year.
