Matt Gardner is entering his first season as a member of the OSU coaching staff after finishing a three-year playing career for the Cowboys. He will serve as a graduate manager in 2009.
A native of Andrews, Texas, Gardner pitched in 39 games for the Cowboys from 2006-08. The right hander compiled a 16-6 record, including winning 10-straight decisions during one span. He was an honorable mention All-Big 12 pick as a sophomore after going 7-4 with a pair of complete games, and he was named to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional All-Tournament Team after earning a complete game win in the opening round of the tourney. Gardner played his freshman season at Grayson County Community College.
A three-time Major League Baseball Draft pick, Gardner earned his degree in education in December 2008 and is working toward a graduate degree in sports administration.
