Season Ticket Sales Reach All-Time High
September 09, 2008 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State University's football team has never been more popular with its fans.
OSU has announced that football season ticket sales for 2008 have climbed to 38,590, setting a new school record with sales still ongoing. The old mark of 38,504 season tickets was set in 2004. That previous record was reached the year following Oklahoma State's Cotton Bowl appearance against Ole Miss.
In 2007, Oklahoma State sold 33,700 season tickets.
The new high in season tickets comes in conjunction with the opening of new seating in the west end zone of Boone Pickens Stadium. That addition raised the stadium's capacity to 60,000.
Oklahoma State opened its home schedule with a crowd of 45,001 for the win over Houston. It was the largest crowd for an Oklahoma State home game since the 2005 when the Cowboys hosted Texas. The crowd for the Houston game exceeded the capacity of Boone Pickens Stadium for the past two seasons when construction projects had lowered the total number of seats to 44,700.
Oklahoma State, 2-0 on the season, returns home Saturday night when the Cowboys host Missouri State for a 6:05 p.m. kickoff. OSU will then have an open week Sept. 20 before playing its third straight home game on Sept. 27 when Troy visits Stillwater for the first time.
