Post-Game Quotes
Vs.
Â
OSU Head Coach Mike Gundy
Â
On the game
“It was a good game for us. Our team played much better in the second half on offense. Early in the season, if you give up big plays on defense and special teams and if you turn the ball over offensively, you don't give yourself much of a chance. And that's what we did in the first half. That's why we didn't play very well.
Â
“Defensively, we did really well. The first half offense put them in a terrible situation a number of times. Once we got ahead by three scores, communication went through to Coach Beckman just to play base, to play back. Don't give them a big play. The bend but don't break theory. We gave up a few more yards and points than we would have liked, but we felt like it was important at that time to just back off and keep everything in front of us.”
Â
On Boone Pickens Stadium
“What a beautiful stadium. It's really amazing to me to see all that orange in the west end zone. It was loud in there. Makes us proud as a staff and as a team and especially as a graduate and former player here to see the difference. There were comments from the
Â
On the combination of Dez Bryant and Kendall Hunter
“It's pretty good. Dez and Kendall did a nice job. Dez has continued to mature. He's played more plays than he ever has before. He's showed more consistency in what he's doing.
Â
On the running game
“We believe in running the football. We use different formations to run the football. The running game only looks good when we have guys carrying that can make people miss. We've said this several times before - there is no substitute for a guy that can make a player miss in space.”
Â
Â
Offensive lineman Andrew Lewis
On the offensive performance:
“The whole offense was pretty happy about it. 699 yards  you can't ask for better offense than that. In the first half we kind of came out slow, but in the second half everything was clicking.”
Â
On Dez Bryant's performance:
“I was just kind of watching him take off and stiff arming people. It was incredible just watching him - me and the whole line were. We're slow guys so we were watching him from behind, but it was crazy though.”
Â
On the second half offensive turn around:
“We kind of slowed down the tempo a little bit and just went back to our base stuff. Three turnovers kind of killed us in the first half. You can't do anything with three turnovers. In the second half, we just went back to our base plays and runs and just stuck it to them.”
Â
Linebacker Andre Sexton
On the game:
“I think our offense came out early and struggled a little bit, and we tried to keep them in it. I think this year they can depend on us so nobody panicked when we got down. It was a great team out there that we were facing. They just kept putting it on us. We finally had to try and contain that quarterback somehow and then when our offense got a spark, it was downhill from there. We just had to maintain the lead and just come away with a victory.”
Â
On trying to contain Case Keenum:
“We've got to look at the film and see what we did wrong and figure out how to contain a quarterback that's mobile like that. When we watched film on him, he scrambled to throw the ball. Today, he was scrambling to run so he kind of threw us a curve ball. We just adjusted on the run and just tried to go from there.”
Â
Quarterback Zac Robinson
On playing in the new stadium:
“It was awesome. It was great to see that west end zone packed. Everybody was excited to play in front of the home crowd, and it definitely lived up to the expectations.”
Â
Running back Kendall Hunter
On rushing for more than 200 yards in addition to Dez Bryant's 200 receiving yards:
“We weren't worried about all that. We were just worried about the win and the team.”
Â
On the second half offensive turnaround:
“We just went in the locker room and realized we made a lot of mistakes. We just tried to take away a lot of those mistakes.”
Â
Â
On the game:
“I thought they came out in the second half, and we did not meet their intensity. They came out and they just outplayed us, either offensively or defensively. They took control of the game and some of our players continued to play and some players didn't. It's something we have to correct.
Â
On Bryant, Hunter, and Robinson:
“They are a triple threat, and we knew that coming in. Dez had some great plays, he's definitely a big time player. Hunter is a real weapon. And what makes Zac good is the things they do with him. They've got some weapons offensively that are really going to keep some people on the edge.”
Â
Compared from previous games vs. OSU:
“They've got a great team on offense, and they are giving the ball to the guys that are going to make a difference. That's what football is all about.”
Â
Â
Â
On the game:
“That's the game of football. You can always go back and Âwhat if' yourself. It's a Âwhat if' game. We are tired of having those games. There in the third and fourth quarter, we were able to gain tempo a little bit. I think we were able to get the ball, call the play and execute pretty well. And for the most part, we got them a little tired and got it a little too late.
Â
“We were able to execute at times. We moved the ball when we wanted too and had times where we stopped ourselves from our mistakes.”
