Cowboy Golf Extends Lead At Ping/Golfweek Preview

TOLEDO, Ohio  Oklahoma State's men's golf team added to its lead on Monday during the second round of the Ping/Golfweek Preview at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
OSU entered the day with a two-shot cushion before posting a 277 during Round Two. The Cowboys' 7-under tally gave them a 9-under 559 total through 36 holes and moved them eight shots clear of Tennessee's 1-under 567. The duo will enter tomorrow's final round as the only two teams under par. Georgia and Clemson are tied for third at 7-over 575.
Freshman Morgan Hoffmann continued to impress in his OSU debut, firing a 5-under 66 to move to the top spot on the leaderboard. For the second consecutive day, the Saddle Brook, N.J., native lit up the historic track's front nine, going out in 5-under 32 on Monday before posting his sixth birdie of the day at the 10th.
Through his first two trips around the front nine, Hoffmann has posted nine birdies against just one bogey. With his 7-under 135 total, he will carry a one-stroke lead over Tennessee's Robin Wingardh into play tomorrow.
Sitting two strokes back in a tie for third is OSU sophomore Rickie Fowler. The Murrieta, Calif., native followed his opening 68 with a 69 and is tied with two other players at 137.
Senior Trent Leon slipped into a tie for 13th after posting a 73 during his second round. The Dallas, Texas native opened with a 1-under 70 and stands at 143.
After beginning his day 3-over through five holes, Trent Whitekiller made five birdies over his final 11 holes to get back to even par for the day and finish with a 71. The junior moved into a tie for 28th place at 146.
Sophomore Kevin Tway rebounded from a 77 during his first round with an even-par 71 that included four birdies on his front nine to move into a tie for 34th place at 148.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 10:10 a.m. and will be paired with Tennessee and Georgia.
