Weekly Coach's Update: Rene Sepulveda
September 18, 2008 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Cowgirl cross country coach Rene Sepulveda talks about te Cowgirls and how the season is going so far.
On how the team has looked in practice this week:
"The team is improving. We had the best workout of the season so far earlier this week. The entire team ran well."
On the meets Saturday:
"The team going to Iowa State will get to see and race the course that the Big 12's will be held. We'll see how we fare against Colorado - the defending Big 12 Champions - early in the season. Hopefully our pack time will be within a minute this week. Pack time is the time between your first and fifth runner. For the team going to Missouri State, Brittani (Johnson) and Kristen (Gillespie) will hopefully finish in the top 20 as freshmen. Laura Heaton and Heather Estetter will hopefully finish in the top 50 percent of the race as freshmen. We're thinking about red-shirting Courtney and Camille (Schultz), and Melanie (Funke). They won't race this weekend. The freshmen team will be without them and Victoria (Fratczak), who will travel to Iowa State with the A-Team. I will make decision after the Jamboree if I red-shirt the three freshmen. We are also red-shirting Teran Mixon this cross country season."
On who he expects to benefit from this weekend:
"This will be Natalia's first cross country meet as a collegiate runner and Leah Schroeder has really improved from last season and is looking to have a good start for this season."
On if the cancellation of the Friends Invitational:
"It didn't mess up our routine because Friends was only a B-Team competition."
