BOISE, IdahoÂFormer Oklahoma State golfer Chris Tidland earned his first career victory on the Nationwide Tour Sunday, winning the Albertsons Boise Open at Hillcrest Country Club.
Making his 192nd career start on the Nationwide Tour, Tidland saved his best round for last, firing a 64 at the par-71, 6,698-yard layout to finish four shots clear of the field. The Stillwater, Okla., resident opened with rounds of 69, 65 and 66 before carding his 7-under score during the final round to finish with a 20-under-par total of 264.
A first-team All-American for the Cowboys in 1993 and 1995, Tidland put together a final round fueled by eight birdies, including five on his outward nine en route to his victory. After posting his only bogey of the day at the 13th, he responded with birdies on Nos. 15 and 18 to seal the victory.
Scott Piercey finished as the event's runner-up at 268 after carding a 61 during his final round.
With the victory, Tidland earned $130,500, vaulting him from 86th to 16th on the tour's money list with five events remaining. The top 25 on the Nationwide Tour list earn their PGA Tour card for the next season.
In 21 starts, Tidland has earned $194,480 this season and is looking to return to the PGA Tour for the third time in his career after Tour stints in 2001 and 2007.
The victory also provided the third top 10 of the season for Tidland, who tied for ninth at the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship and tied for eighth at the Rex Hospital Open.
