Post-Game Notes
September 13, 2008 | Cowboy Football
:: Kickoff time for Saturday's game was originally scheduled for 6:05 p.m., but was moved to 12:05 p.m. due to deteriorating weather conditions stemming from Hurricane Ike.
:: Game captains for the Cowboys were David Washington, Donald Booker, Matt Fodge and Ricky Price.
:: Running back Kendall Hunter rushed for 132 yards Saturday, marking his third straight 100-yard rushing game and the fifth 100-yard rushing game of his career. Going back to last year, Oklahoma State has had a 100-yard rusher in 14 consecutive games. After he scored his second touchdown of the game with 13:59 on the clock in the second quarter, Hunter was taken out of the game and did not return.
:: After Hunter was removed from the game, Keith Toston and Beau Johnson saw the rest of the action at running back, with Toston finishing with 11 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown and Johnson adding 13 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
:: Saturday's game marked the second time in school history that OSU had three players rush for more than 100 yards in a single game. The first time was against Texas Tech last year, when Dantrell Savage (130), Robinson (116) and Kendall Hunter (113) all eclipsed the 100-yard plateau.
:: Johnson's 138-yard rushing performance marked the first 100-yard game of his career, with Toston's 148-yard effort the second 100-yard game of his career. He ran for 109 yards against Kansas State in 2006.
:: The game started well for OSU, as Quinton Moore forced a fumble on the first play from scrimmage that was recovered by Derek Burton at the Missouri State 18-yard line. The turnover set up a touchdown run by Zac Robinson five plays later.
:: OSU connected on its first two-point conversion attempt of the year after its opening touchdown when Beau Johnson found the end zone on a swinging gate play.
:: The Cowboys' quick-strike trend continued as each of their first two touchdown drives took less than two minutes. On the year, OSU has turned in 10 scoring drives of two minutes or less.
:: Matt Fodge was not called on to punt until the fourth quarter. His punt was the first since he punted in the first quarter against Houston.
:: When last game's 56-37 win over Houston and Saturday's win are combined it marked the first time since 2003 that OSU eclipsed the 50-point mark in consecutive games.
:: The Cowboys have scored on their first possession of five of the six halves played this year and OSU has held the opposition scoreless on their first possession every half this season.
:: Owning a 22-0 lead in the first quarter, the Cowboys played their entire second-team offense with the exception of quarterback Zac Robinson. Robinson was substituted for good before halftime.
:: Quarterback Alex Cate made his season debut late in the second quarter and completed his first career pass when he connected with Hubert Anyiam for a three-yard gain.
:: Quarterback Brandon Weeden saw his first career action when he entered the game late in the third quarter. His first drive resulted in a touchdown.
:: Defensive lineman Swanson Miller and tight end Wilson Youman logged their first career starts.
:: Deron Fontenot made his season debut for the Cowboys after missing OSU's first two games due to injury. He played on both special teams and at the star linebacker position Saturday.
:: With Saturday's win, Oklahoma State improved to 3-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons and took a 6-0 lead in the all-time series against Missouri State.
:: Prior to this year's 3-0 start, OSU has gotten off to a 3-0 start 17 times, with 15 of those 3-0 starts eventually resulting in winning records. 12 of those teams won at least seven games and nine went on to play in bowl games.
:: The Cowboys improved to 13-3 in non-conference games under fourth-year coach Mike Gundy. That total includes bowl wins over Alabama (2006 Independence Bowl) and Indiana (2007 Insight Bowl).
