Oklahoma State Quotes
Head Coach Mike Gundy
Sept. 13, 2008 vs. Missouri State
On the game:
"This was a successful day for us, but I thought at times we were sloppy offensively with some of the players that hadn't played as much. We were excited about getting some guys in and playing more: some lineman, some running backs and the other two quarterbacks. Overall, it was a good day for us and we're looking forward to the open week to prepare for the next game."
On penalties:
"I'll have to watch the tape to see what really took place. It frustrated me because we should be far enough along, even with our young guys to not have that many penalties. I think the majority of the penalties were against guys that hadn't played and they were nervous. We need to clean that up and execute better no matter who it is in the game."
On players being concerned about families in path of hurricane:
"I know there were some concerns about families. We talked about it as a team. Being from this part of the country, I don't know what it's like to be in a hurricane. I can't imagine what it's like knowing there's a chance you have three or four feet of water in your house or the danger of the high winds. But I know there were some players that were concerned. I would like to think that it wouldn't have affected their game. We told them if they needed help to let their position coach know and we would do everything we could to help their family. And at that point that's all we can really do. But we haven't had any bad news yet."
On three 100-yard rushers:
"Those guys are good backs for us and we like to mix it up. They had 11, 13 and 11 carries. Just keep them in there and keep them healthy."
Missouri State Quotes
Head Coach Terry Allen
On how the first fumble impacted the game:
"If you're going to beat a team like that one - they're obviously better than you are - you need to have good things happen early and we had the opposite of that. It was a little wet and Kingjack (Washington) let her go and that started it and we never got it stopped."
On Oklahoma State:
"They're a good offensive football team, I don't think there's any question about that. It was difficult throwing the ball out there. They just got in there and powered it at us and did an excellent job. We did a bad job. It was a combination. We just missed tackles and you can't do that against a good football team."
On Missouri State's difficulties in the passing game:
"It was difficult, in the first place, throwing. Then we had some drops and the last thing we wanted to do was extend the game. We actually did a decent job of rushing the football in there against them. You'd like to be able to complement with the pass a little bit, but after three or four drops and the way they has our defense on their heels, we just kind of hunkered.”
Missouri State Player Quotes
Quarterback Cody Kirby
“They showed a lot of one-high look in the film last week and then they showed more of a cover-two look. I don't think it overwhelmed us because we have been practicing for that. Our defense runs that a lot. We were kind of used to that defense we just didn't execute as well as we needed to.”
“Well, there is a lot of room for improvement. We didn't play as well as we wanted too and as well as we can. They are a good football team. We had high expectations for ourselves. We are just going to have to come in tomorrow and get ready to move on. We got at least nine more weeks to go and it's a one week at a time deal. We will have to look at the film and learn from our mistakes. I think mentally we were ready to play, we just didn't execute as well.”
Running Back KingJack Washington
“Like I said, we shot ourselves in the foot. There were things we didn't do to our fullest potential that we should have done. The team was good. OSU was good, but we could have done better. We had a lot of chances to get touchdowns and good field position. We were in the red zone a couple times, and we didn't capitalize on that opportunity. It is stuff we have to work on. We have got to get better. We will watch film and learn from our mistakes and get better. (Since last game)We improved a little bit, but still we didn't get to our fullest potential.”
