Post-Game Notes vs. Washington State
Saturday, August 30, 2008
Qwest Field * Seattle, Wash.
Six Cowboys made their first-career start for Oklahoma State today vs. Washington State. Defensively, LB Orie Lemon, S Lucien Antoine and DE Ugo Chinasa saw their first collegiate starts. On offense, WR DeMarcus Conner, TB Kendall Hunter and FB Bryant Ward were on the field for the first play of the game for the first time in their careers.
A total of 10 freshman played for the Cowboys today against the Cougars, including two true freshmen. Both Markelle Martin and Jamal Mosley saw action against WSU.
Over the past six seasons, the Big 12 is 2-10 when traveling two or more time zones for a regular-season road game. Both victories have been won by Oklahoma State (also won 31-20 at UCLA on Sept. 4, 2004).
Oklahoma State held a team scoreless in the first half for the first time since the Nebraska game last season, a span of seven games.
Derek Burton and Jeray Chatham combined to record a safety at the 7:38 mark of the second quarter. It was the first safety scored by the Cowboys since Oct. 27, 2001, when a Colorado snap sailed over the punter's head and out of the end zone.
Washington State's first snap inside Oklahoma State territory came at the 12:39 mark of the second half.
WR Bo Bowling made his first-career reception at the 13:30 mark of the second quarter.
Senior punter Matt Fodge now has 49 career punts that have been downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line. He had two today.
Junior QB Zac Robinson passed for 100 or more yards for the 13th consecutive game.
On his first-career punt return, senior Ricky Price returned the ball 68 yards to the Washington State 18 early in the third quarter.
With a 27-yard field goal at the 9:25 mark of the third quarter, Dan Bailey exceeded his total number of FGs from last season (two).
Perrish Cox's 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the third of his career. He also brought back a 98 yarder vs. Kansas State on Oct. 20, 2007 and a 96 yarder vs. Missouri State on Sept. 2, 2006. Today's return ties for the 13th-longest in OSU history. He now owns the fourth, 11th and 13th-longest kickoff returns in school history. It is his fourth-career special teams touchdown.
Sophomore LB Justin Gent recorded his first-career interception with 8:41 remaining in the game.
Junior LB Orie Lemon finished the game with 10 total tackles, four more than he had all last season.
Sophomore TB Kendall Hunter recorded 107 yards against the Cougars, the third 100-yard rushing game of his career.
