Pettigrew Named To Lombardi List
August 26, 2008 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State senior tight end Brandon Pettigrew is one of 49 offensive players across the country named to the preseason watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award, presented by Wachovia.
The Lombardi Award, now in its 39th year, honors the top lineman in college football. The 49 offensive players are joined by 54 candidates from the defensive side of the ball. The award will be presented in Houston on Dec. 10.
The Rotary Lombardi Award committee is comprised of more than 500 members, including all past winners and finalists, all Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. The Rotary Lombardi Watch List, intended as a reference tool for the selection committee, will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the 12 semifinalists for 2008.
Pettigrew is considered one of America's top tight ends following a junior season that saw him earn first-team all-Big 12 Conference honors as selected by the league's head coaches.
He enters his senior season with 70 career receptions to rank No. 22 at Oklahoma State all time. He also has 978 receiving yards and is on track to become the 21st player in OSU history to reach 1,000 yards in receiving. For his career, the product of Lee High School in Tyler, Texas, is averaging 14 yards per reception. He had 35 catches for 540 yards last season on his way to all-conference honors.
