In The Year 2008
Oklahoma State will open its 107th season of collegiate football Saturday, Aug. 30, when the Cowboys travel to Seattle to face the Washington State Cougars. The game is set for 12:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. central) and will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net. Qwest Field in Seattle is the site of the game. The game will be Oklahoma State's first in the Pacific Northwest since the Cowboys faced the University of Washington in the 1985 season opener. In a few months, the Cowboy basketball squad will be making its way to Seattle as well. Travis Ford's first Oklahoma State team will face the Washington Huskies as part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.
OSU And TV
The Washington State game will mark Oklahoma State's 11th television appearance since the 2007 season opener and the 18th televised game since the beginning of the 2006 season. During that time, OSU has made national TV appearances on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, FSN, CSTV and the NFL Network. The Washington State game marks the third straight regular-season contest for Oklahoma State on FSN. OSU closed 2007 with a win at Baylor and a loss at Oklahoma in front of the FSN cameras.
Things To Know
Oklahoma State opens its new campaign looking to make a third straight bowl appearance. The three-peat has happened just twice before in OSU's history, with one of those runs coming earlier this decade under former head coach Les Miles. The Cowboys are also looking for a program-first sixth bowl appearance in seven seasons. OSU has never won a bowl game in three consecutive seasons, but that feat could also be on the agenda thanks to wins in the Independence Bowl (2006) and the Insight Bowl (2007) the past two seasons. OSU will also be trying to reach a sixth bowl game this decade. Only in the 1980s did OSU make six postseason games in the same decade.
A Win In Seattle Would...
A victory by the Cowboys in their season opener would...
Improve the Cowboys to 1-0 for the third time in four years, but for just the third time in seven years.
Improve Mike Gundy's head coaching record to 19-19 in his fourth season.
Give the Cowboys their fourth win in their last five games away from Stillwater (including the Insight Bowl victory).
Improve OSU to 3-3 in non-conference road games under Mike Gundy.
