Five Cowboys Advance To Match Play At U.S. Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C. Â Five members of the Oklahoma State men's golf team advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
Leading the way was freshman Peter Uihlein, who tied for 10th place at even-par 140. The Bradenton, Fla., native fired a 1-under 69 on Monday at Pinehurst's No. 4 course before turning in a 71 on Tuesday to advance.
Uihlein will square off with teammate Trent Leon tomorrow morning at 8:10 a.m. (EST). The Cowboy senior tied for 47th place with a 144 total. Leon carded a 73 at the No. 2 course during his first round before posting a 71 on No. 4 Tuesday.
Sophomore Kevin Tway will play in the group ahead of Uihlein and Leon Wednesday morning. The Edmond, Okla., native will tee off at 8:00 a.m. and will take on Philip Francis. Tway tied for 33rd place at 143 after opening with a 73 on Monday at the No. 2 course and closing out stroke play with an even-par 70 at No. 4.
Freshman Morgan Hoffmann also finished in the group tied for 143. After opening with a 75 at No. 2, the Saddle Brook, N.J., native fired a 2-under 68 at No. 4 to move into the match play bracket. Hoffmann will square off with Jason Millard at 10:30 a.m.
One stroke back at 144 was sophomore Rickie Fowler, who tied for 47th place. The Murrieta, Calif., native posted a 73 at the No. 4 course on Monday before closing with a 71 at No. 2. Fowler will face Isaiah Telles at 9:30 a.m.
OSU associate head coach Alan Bratton carded consecutive 73s to tie for 89th place at 146 and miss the cut.
