Defense Draws Gundy's Attention As Camp Continues

On Friday, for the second consecutive day, head coach Mike Gundy liked what he saw from newcomers on the defensive side of the ball.
“We had another good day with a lot of enthusiasm, which is to be expected,” he said. “Players are moving at a fast pace; guys continue to show up and make plays.
“(Linebacker) Donald Booker and (defensive tackle) Swanson Miller made plays. (Cornerbacks) Jacob Lacey and Markelle Martin showed up on defense,” he added. “Offensively, Damian Davis made a few plays and Brandon Weeden had a good day again.”

“Orie has been showing up,” Gundy said. He's making some plays. “We've got considerably more speed at that position. Booker shows up because he's fast and fast guys show up when you're playing football.”
Redshirt freshmen defensive ends Jamie Blatnick and Richetti Jones were also topics of the post-practice media gathering.
“Richietti is about 255 pounds and Blatnick is around 260 and they're both good athletes with good feet,” said Gundy. “Jamie has come further in a shorter amount of time than what we thought he would coming from a smaller level of ball in
“I don't if it will be game one or game five but at some point those guys are going to show up because they've got good feet and they've been able to keep their strength up and they seem to play hard.”
