Five Cowboy Golfers Make Cut At Western Amateur

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. Â Five members of the Oklahoma State men's golf team made the 36-hole cut on Thursday at the 106th Western Amateur Championship at Point O' Woods Golf and Country Club.
The 154-player field was trimmed to the low 44 players and ties after two rounds and will be cut to 16 players after tomorrow's two rounds. Those 16 players will then be put into a match play bracket to determine the tournament champion at the par-70, 7,043-yard layout.
Incoming freshman Morgan Hoffmann paced the group with his second consecutive 68 to stand in a tie for third place at 136. The Saddle Brook, N.J., native made four birdies during his second round, including two over the final six holes, to finish the day two shots behind tournament leaders Philip Francis and Kyle Stanley.
Sophomore Rickie Fowler followed his opening round of 69 with a 71 and is tied for 19th place at even-par 140, while senior Jon McLean also came in at 140 after posting rounds of 68 and 72.
Hoffmann's classmate, Peter Uihlein, finished the day tied for 27th place after a round of 71 gave him a 1-over 141 total.
Sophomore Kevin Tway posted a 72 during his second round and is tie for 39th place with a 142 total.
Cowboy associate head coach Alan Bratton carded rounds of 72 and 71 to finish tied for 47th place and miss the cut by one shot.
