Cowgirls Continue Preseason With Intrasquad Scrimmage; Exhibition Match Next Up
August 14, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State continued preparations for the 2008 soccer season with an intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday night at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
The contest between the Orange and White squads, coached by OSU assistant coaches Tony Economopoulos and Karen Hancock, ended in a 1-1 tie after two 35-minute halves. Hancock's White team eventually prevailed by winning a sudden death penalty shootout.
Freshman Kyndall Treadwell netted the game's first goal with 14:41 left in the first half to give the White team the lead, and the score remained 1-0 until Kasey Langdon recorded the equalizer for the Orange early in the second half.
“I was pretty pleased with how we looked (in the scrimmage),” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Our fitness level was pretty good, and it was good to get a lot of girls out there in the mix and see what they could do.
“I was impressed with several of our young players, and our veterans looked pretty sharp for the most part.”
Carmichael highlighted the efforts of several Cowgirls on the night, noting the strong attacking play of Treadwell and Langdon and the efforts of Jamie Markaverich in the defensive midfield.
OSU continues preseason practice Friday before hosting TCU in an exhibition game Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. Admission to Saturday's match is free.
“TCU will present a good challenge for us and give us a chance to see how we've improved in the preseason and what we still need to work on,” Carmichael said. “We've got a chance to have some good depth on our squad this year, and this game will also allow us to get a look at who our top 16, 17 players will be that will challenge for minutes.”
