Cowboys Complete Morning Practice, Will Take Afternoon Break
August 14, 2008 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy put his Cowboys through a mid-morning workout on Thursday and then rewarded his squad by cancelling a second practice that was scheduled for late afternoon.
The cancellation means that the Cowboys have completed their 2008 “two-a-day” workouts.
“We had a decent practice,” Gundy said of the shorts, shoulder pads and helmets workout. “We got a lot of work in and put in some time against some Washington State sets. We're going to give the players the afternoon off and then go see a movie tonight.”
The Cowboys are at the halfway point between their first practice and the season opener and the dog days of fall camp have arrived. OSU began practice exactly two weeks ago today and will depart for Seattle two weeks from today. OSU was among the first teams in the country to open practice with a July 29 report date.
“It's good to give them a little bit of a mental and physical break,” Gundy said. “It's a tough time in camp. This is the time you look for your team leaders to step up and help your team push through it.”
“We start class here in three or four days so we'll come back Friday and get it started again.”
“We had an okay workout,” said junior quarterback Zac Robinson. “We're still getting there and really looking forward to the season opener.”
The Cowboys will practice Friday evening and then conduct a closed scrimmage Saturday afternoon. OSU begins the fall semester on Monday.
