Oklahoma State Soccer Ranked No. 23 In Preseason Poll
August 12, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Kan. Â For the second-straight season, the Oklahoma State women's soccer team will enter the season in the national rankings. The Cowgirls are ranked No. 23 in the NSCAA/adidas 2008 preseason poll, which was released today.
“Being ranked in the preseason is a nice honor because it shows people are taking notice of our program and the accomplishments we had last season,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “But we also understand that preseason rankings don't mean anything unless you back them up. When we open the season at SMU, they're not going to care what we're ranked.
“Our goal is to play great soccer throughout the season so that we can be highly ranked at the end of the year.”
OSU is one of three Big 12 Conference teams in the NSCAA/adidas preseason rankings, with Texas earning a No. 8 ranking and Texas A&M coming in at 15th.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 14-6-3 season in 2007 in which they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship for the second-consecutive year. OSU was ranked 23rd in the final '07 NSCAA/adidas poll.
OSU returns nine starters from last season's team, including its top three leading scorers in senior All-American Yolanda Odenyo and juniors Kasey Langdon and Siera Strawser.
Carmichael's squad will hold an intrasquad Orange-White scrimmage Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex and will then host TCU in a preseason exhibition match at 6 p.m. Saturday in Stillwater.
OSU opens the regular season Aug. 23 at SMU.
