OSU Returns To Practice Field
August 12, 2008 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State football squad returned to the practice field Monday afternoon after taking its first break from fall camp.
The Cowboys had a full-pads drill in Boone Pickens Stadium today following a one-day break from practice after the scrimmage. However, it was still Saturday's scrimmage that generated the most conversation following Monday's workout, specifically Cowboy linebackers Orie Lemon and newcomer Donald Booker.
“Orie's growing up,” head coach Mike Gundy said of his junior linebacker. “He's 250 pounds and he still runs fast. He's understanding the law of physics  that if you hit them harder than they hit you it's going to feel better. He's doing a lot better in that area.”
One of the highlights of Saturday night was also the physical play of Booker.
“He's got a pretty good feel for showing up,” Gundy said. “His hit on (receiver) William Cole was 17 yards deep. That's a pretty deep drop for a Âbacker. And as I said afterwards, as nice as it was to see the hit, it was also nice to see William Cole bounce back up after the hit. He's come a long way.”
Gundy also cited the play of his first-team defense and gave credit to quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Alex Cate for their efforts in the scrimmage.
The Cowboys will hit the field twice on Tuesday for their third session of “two-a-day” workouts.
