Trent Whitekiller Claims Title At Sahalee Players Championship

SAMMAMISH, Wash.ÂTrent Whitekiller, a member of the Oklahoma State men's golf team, claimed medalist honors on Thursday at the 15th Sahalee Players Championship.
The Cowboy junior-to-be held a two-shot lead with 18 holes remaining before rain forced the event to be shortened to 54 holes. Whitekiller finished with a 6-under total of 210 to finish two shots clear of USC's Matthew Giles.
Whitekiller opened with an even-par 72 before blistering Sahalee Country Club, the host course of for the 1998 PGA Championship, with a 67 during his second round. The Sallisaw, Okla., native carded eight birdies during the round, including five on his back nine. Whitekiller's 5-under score was the low round of the day and vaulted him to the 36-hole lead.
With back-to-back birdies to open his third round, Whitekiller picked up where he left off before finishing with a 1-under 71 during his third round.
Whitekiller was joined in the field by OSU teammate Mark Johnson, who finished 57th at 238.
