Three Cowboys Earn Honorable Mention All-America Honors
June 07, 2008 | Cowboy Golf
Junior Trent Leon, sophomore Trent Whitekiller and freshman Kevin Tway were all among the 30 players to receive honorable mention plaudits. The trio joins Cowboy freshman Rickie Fowler, who was named a first-team selection earlier this week.
Leon was an honorable mention pick for the second consecutive season for the Cowboys. The Dallas, Texas, native made 13 starts on the year and earned his first career victory, winning the U.S. Collegiate. He also had two other top 10s, tying for seventh at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate and tying for fifth at the NCAA Central Regional. Leon started every event in his third collegiate season and compiled a 73.51 stroke average.
Whitekiller made 11 starts and finished strong down the stretch. The Sallisaw, Okla., native posted his first career top-10 finish at The Maxwell where he tied for ninth. Whitekiller closed out the year with his best career finish on college golf's biggest stage, tying for seventh at the NCAA Championship.
Tway also played his best golf down the stretch, posting a pair of runner-ups and his first career victory in three of his last four starts. The Edmond, Okla., native finished second at The Maxwell and the Big 12 Championship before breaking through with his first career win at the NCAA Central Regional. Tway finished his first season with a 73.49 stroke average and joined Leon as the only two Cowboys to start every event.
