June 12, 2008 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
DES MOINES, Iowa  The Oklahoma State women's track and field team ended its 2008 outdoor season Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen finished just one place and three seconds from qualifying for the 5,000-meter run final round. Hjalmarsen's time of 17:21.42 gave her a 17th-place finish.
Freshman Mihaela Susa, who ran the 5,000-meter run in 16:31.30 earlier this season, joined Hjalmarsen in the event, finishing 27th with a time of 18:11.50.
"Tone ran well for her first NCAA Championships and was only one place from qualifying for the final, and Mihaela got some good experience as a freshman," coach Rene Sepulveda said. "It was a good experience for both girls for their first time here."
The women's 5,000-meter run final is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. Friday.
Three Cowgirls will compete in events this summer, including freshmen Teran Mixon and Brandi Andrews in the USA Junior National Track and Field Championships in Columbus, Ohio and junior Merritt Dietz in the U.S Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.
