Cowgirls in Seventh Place After Day One of NCAA Regional

LINCOLN, Neb. Â The Oklahoma State women's track and field is in seventh place in the team standings after one day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional at the University of Nebraska.
The Cowgirls' 12 team points were earned in the 5,000-meter run, where freshman Mihaela Susa and sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen scored with second and fifth place finishes, respectively. Susa earned eight team points with her time of 16:58.52, while Hjalmarsen earned four team points with her time of 17:03.33. Their places qualify them for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on June 11-14.
Senior Deleanor Kirkpatrick, the only Cowgirl competing in the hammer throw, earned a top-10 finish with her toss of 53.95 meters.
Senior Alina Roman and junior Merritt Dietz, who qualified for the Olympic Trials earlier this season, represented Oklahoma State in the discus throw. Roman's toss of 47.67 meters gave her an 11th place finish while Dietz's mark of 46.10 meters was enough for 18th.
The Cowgirls continue their competition at the regional tomorrow, as senior Eva Tomankova and sophomore Natalia Kovtun compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Baiba Blumbaha and freshman Clarissa Andrews compete in the triple jump and senior LaKendra Greathouse and Dietz compete in the shot put.
