May 21, 2008 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. Â A trio of Oklahoma State football players were recognized as some of the best at their respective positions when Rivals.com released the first edition of its position power rankings today.
Brandon Pettigrew was ranked as the No. 4 tight end in the nation, Zac Robinson was tabbed as the nation's No. 16 quarterback and Dez Bryant was recognized as the No. 19 wide receiver in the country.
Several media outlets have listed Pettigrew as being a top NFL prospect at his position this year, with Rivals.com following suit by writing that he is a potential first-round pick as part of its analysis of the Cowboy senior. A first-team all-Big 12 honoree last year during a season in which the conference was loaded with playmaking tight ends, Pettigrew made 35 catches for 540 yards and four touchdowns in 2007. He enters the 2008 season just 22 yards shy of becoming the 21st player in Oklahoma State history with 1,000 yards receiving.
Robinson enjoyed a record-breaking year at the helm of the Cowboy offense as a sophomore in 2007, setting school marks for single-season total offense (3,671 yards), single-game total offense (486 yards vs. Texas) and single-game passing yards (430 vs. Texas). The offensive MVP of the Insight Bowl, Robinson finished the season with 2,824 passing yards and 847 rushing yards making him one of only two BCS conference quarterbacks to pass for more than 2,500 yards and rush for more than 800 yards (Heisman winner Tim Tebow was the other).
Bryant was honored as a Rivals.com second-team freshman All-American after a 2007 season in which he made 43 catches for 622 yards and scored six touchdowns. Bryant saved some of his best work for two of Oklahoma State's biggest games, snaring eight passes for a Cowboy freshman-record 155 yards and a touchdown against fifth-ranked Kansas and making nine catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns in helping lead OSU to its 49-33 Insight Bowl victory over Indiana.
