April 06, 2008 | Cowboy Baseball
COLUMBIA, Mo. Â Tyler Lyons hurled the second complete game of his career Saturday to lead Oklahoma State to a 6-2 win over No. 4 Missouri in front of a sellout crowd at Taylor Stadium.
With the win, OSU evened the series against Mizzou (23-6, 5-3), setting up Sunday's series clinching finale, which is set for a 1 p.m. start. The 23rd-ranked Cowboys are now 19-9 overall and 5-6 in Big 12 Conference play.
Lyons, a sophomore left hander who retired the first 10 batters of the game, allowed just two earned runs on seven hits to notch his team leading fifth victory of the season. He struck out six and did not walk a batter in improving to 5-2 on the season.
OSU got on the scoreboard in the third, snapping a string of 20 scoreless innings when Jordy Mercer brought home Tyrone Hambly with a single to make the score 1-0.
The Cowboys added to their lead in the fourth, getting a pair of unearned runs on a throwing error with the bases loaded to give them a 3-0 advantage.
OSU scored its first four runs off Mizzou starter Ian Berger, who entered the game having allowed just three runs in six appearances this season. The Tigers' junior right hander worked 6.1 innings and suffered his first loss of the season to fall to 3-1.
The Pokes led 4-0 in the eighth when MU got its only two runs of the game on a two-run home run by Greg Folgia that trimmed OSU's lead in half.
But Mercer got the runs right back in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer of his own. The blast was the sixth of the season for Mercer, who finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Matt Hague was also 2-for-5 for the Cowboys.
