April 26, 2008 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State clinched its fourth-consecutive conference series win with a 10-3 victory over Kansas Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The win was the eighth in a row for the 13th-ranked Cowboys, who improved to 13-7 in Big 12 Conference play and 31-11 overall. OSU's eight-game winning streak is its longest since the Pokes won 11 straight during the 2006 season.
Donnie Webb and Neil Medchill led the Cowboys' offensive attack as each collected two hits and three RBIs, while Tyler Lyons picked up his team leading seventh win on the mound. Matt Peck worked the final 2.2 innings for his third save of the season.
As it did in Friday's opener, Kansas (25-21, 5-12) took the game's first lead, getting a run in the third on an RBI single by Robby Price.
But the Cowboys answered in the bottom half of the inning. Luis Flores walked to lead off the frame, and after a bunt single by Tyrone Hambly, Webb delivered a two-run double down the right field line to put OSU up 2-1.
The Cowboys maintained the one-run lead until the fifth when they rallied for four runs. Tom Belza, who was 3-for-4 in the contest, got things started with a double and later scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Hambly. OSU took a 4-1 lead on Webb's second RBI double of the game, and Jordy Mercer drove in Webb with a single.
Matt Hague provided the final run in the fifth with an RBI double to give the Cowboys a 6-1 advantage.
OSU added two runs in both the seventh and eighth frames. Medchill hit his second home run of the series and fifth of the season in the seventh and also added an RBI single in the eighth.
Lyons worked 6.1 innings to improve to 7-2 on the season. The sophomore southpaw allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out five.
Peck allowed just two hits in 2.2 scoreless innings for the save.
OSU goes for its second-consecutive weekend series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
