Sarac Breaks School Heptathlon Record

AZUSA, Calif. – Oklahoma State senior Tihana Sarac finished the Mt. SAC/Azusa Pacific Multi-Event Invitational Thursday with 5,057 total points, which set a school record.
Sarac broke the former record of 4, 960 points, which she also held, and hit the provisional NCAA regional qualifying mark. The score also set a Croatian national record.
“She had a really good day,” coach Rene Sepulveda said. “The thing about heptathlons is it's hard to perform well in every event. You can do well in one event and poorly in another, but she was really consistent in all her events.”
Sarac started the day with a 5.72-meter mark in the long jump, which gave her 765 points and her best jump in a heptathlon. She then had a personal-best javelin throw of 35.05 meters to give her an additional 573 points. In her third and final event, she scored 747 points as she finished the 800-meter run in 2:25.79.
Sarac scored 2,085 points on the day to go with the 2,972 points she scored on the first day and finished in fourth place.
Sarac will compete in the heptathlon again at the Big 12 Championships on May 16-18.
