Cowgirl Track In Action This Weekend

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State women's track and field team sends competitors to the Texas Relays in Austin this Thursday and Friday, the Missouri Southern Track and Field Festival in Joplin, Mo., on Friday and the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J., on Friday.
The Cowgirl distance runners suit up for the first time this outdoor season when they compete at the Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Track & Field Stadium.
Leading the way for the Cowgirls is freshman Mihaela Susa, who is competing in her first outdoor 5,000-meter race. Susa goes into the meet with impressive credentials, running the 1,500-meter run in 4:19.31 and the 3,000-meter run in 9:26.23.
Susa will be joined in the event by all-Big 12 sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen, who ran a 16:54.81 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in her last time out, which was enough for a sixth place finish and a new personal best.
Eva Tomankova narrowly missed the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA indoor meet in the mile run, but posted the seventh-best indoor mile time in Oklahoma State history; 4:48.44. Tomankova, the second place finisher at last year's Big 12 Championships (10:32.93), will make her outdoor debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Rounding off the list is sophomore Natalia Kovtun, who will join Tomankova in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Kovtun, a transfer from USC, comes in with a personal best mark of 10:18.17. Kovtun looks to qualify for the NCAA regional, needing a time better than 10:50.25.
Senior Kim Blomkvist will compete in the 5,000-meter run with Hjalmarsen and Susa.
Kovtun and Tomankova will be the first Cowgirls to step on the track, with the 3,000-meter steeplechase slated for 6:00 p.m. Friday, followed by the 5,000-meter run at 8:00 p.m.
