Cowgirls Add to List of Regional Qualifiers

The Oklahoma State women's track and field team continued its busy weekend in several events Friday, highlighted by senior Eva Tomankova's NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Tomankova, the 10th Cowgirl to qualify this season, finished the event with a personal-best time of 10:21.17, which ranks her second in the Big 12 and fourth in the Midwest Region. She joins sophomore Natalia Kovtun as a regional qualifier in the event, who hit the mark Thursday.
Sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen and freshman Mihaela Susa had personal-best and provisional NCAA qualifying times in the 10,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays, finishing in 34:33.62 and 34:49.42, respectively. Hjalmarsen's time was 45 seconds better than her previous personal best, while Susa was competing in the event for the first time.
The highlight for the Cowgirls at the Azusa Pacific Invitational came from freshman Brandi Andrews, who finished the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:11.69, which qualifies her for the USA Outdoor Junior National Track and Field Championships in June. She joins freshman Teran Mixon, who hit the 1,500-meter run mark earlier this season, as a qualifier in the event.
“Brandi is one of the most improved athletes on our team this season,” coach Rene Sepulveda said.
Senior Brandi Broaddus was the only Cowgirl to score in an event at the Kansas Relays Friday, throwing the javelin 31.62 meters.
Sepulveda credited some of the Cowgirl's success this week to the weather conditions.
“The weather was outstanding for all our races this weekend,” Sepulveda said. “We have had quite a lot of wind this spring in training, so it was nice to have perfect conditions for the competition this week.”
The Cowgirls compete again at several events Saturday, including the Kansas Relays, TCU Invitational and Long Beach State Invitational.
