Sarac Performs Well in First Day of Heptathlon
April 17, 2008 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
AZUSA, Calif. Â Oklahoma State senior Tihana Sarac had a fantastic first day at the Mt. SAC/Azusa Pacific Multi-Event Invitational Wednesday, scoring 2,972 points in the heptathlon.
Sarac had two personal bests on the day, running the 100-meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds, her first time to break the 15 second mark, and throwing the shot put 12.49 meters. The events gave her 860 and 621 points, respectively.
"She had a very, very good first day," coach Rene Sepulveda said. "Her goal is 5,000 points, so she's about 60 points ahead of reaching that mark."
Sepulveda said Sarac's success in the 100-meter hurdles is due to her work with volunteer assistant coach Jim Bolding, who is a former NCAA hurdles champion.
The high jump and the 200-meter dash also gave Sarac a chance to build her point total. She scored 621 points in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters and 797 points in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.00 seconds.
Sarac is in fourth place after day one of competition and will compete in the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
Sarac will try to break her own school record of 4,960 points tomorrow.
