April 16, 2008 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER, Okla. Â The Oklahoma State women's track and field team is scheduled to compete in five events this week, including the California Invitational Heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday, Kansas Relays Thursday through Saturday, Azusa Pacific Invitational Friday and the Long Beach State and TCU Invitationals Saturday.
Senior Tihana Sarac, coming off two personal-best performances at the John Jacobs Invitational, starts the week for the Cowgirls Wednesday when she competes in the California Invitational Heptathlon. Sarac, whose personal-best heptathlon score is 4,960, is aiming for the provisional NCAA regional qualifying mark of 5,050.
Junior Merritt Dietz highlights the group traveling to the Kansas Relays. Dietz, who, for the second time this season, broke the school discus throw record in her last competition, hopes to hit the Olympic qualifying mark of 56.00 meters.
Many of the distance runners are scheduled to compete in the Long Beach State Invitational, including sophomore Natalia Kovtun, who won the 1,500-meter run in her last competition.
Six Cowgirls are scheduled to compete in the Azusa Pacific Invitational, including Sarac, Kovtun, senior Kim Blomkvist and freshmen Irene Masai, Brandi Andrews and Teran Mixon.
Most of the Cowgirl track and field team will be headed to the TCU Invitational. Among the 10 Cowgirls scheduled to compete are sophomore Baiba Blumbaha, who has already hit the regional mark in the triple jump, and freshman Clarissa Andrews, whose best triple jump mark this season is less than half a meter shy of qualifying for the NCAA regional.
