Dietz Sets School Discus Throw Record Again

NORMAN, Okla. – The Cowgirl track and field team had a successful day Saturday at the John Jacobs Invitational, highlighted by junior Merritt Dietz, who set the school record in the discus throw for the second time this season.
Dietz's discuss throw of 54.52 meters broke her previous mark of 52.18 meters, set at the UTA Bobby Lane Track and Field Invitational. The throw not only set a new school record, but also broke the John Jacobs Invitational record of 54.17 meters, gave her first place in the event and was the second best throw in the NCAA Midwest Region this season.
Sophomores Baiba Blumbaha and Natalia Kovtun joined Dietz as first-place finishers. Blumbaha won the triple jump with a leap of 12.38 meters and Kovtun won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:38.01.
Senior Tihana Sarac had two personal bests Saturday, running the 100-meter hurdles in 15.14 seconds and throwing the shot put 12.34 meters. She is scheduled to compete in the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific University Wednesday and Thursday.
The rest of the Cowgirls compete in various events next week, including the TCU Invitational, Azusa Pacific Invitational, Long Beach Invitational and Kansas Relays.
