SAN DIEGO Â Oklahoma State ended its stay at the Aztec Invitational with a 12-4 loss to host San Diego State Sunday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The 20th-ranked Cowboys used six pitchers and surrendered 18 hits in the loss, which dropped them to 9-3 on the season. OSU finished 2-2 in the tourney.
OSU's Dylan Brown was 3-for-4 with a pair of triples against the Aztecs, while Rebel Ridling also had three hits in four at bats and has hit safely in all 12 of the Cowboys' games this season.
Freshman Davis Duren also had a solid day at the plate for the Cowboys, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first start of his career.
The Aztecs (7-6) took control of the game early as they scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the first three innings.
OSU fell behind big early as Matt Gardner surrendered two singles and a walk to load the bases with Aztecs in the bottom of the first inning. Garett Green then stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam over the left field wall to give SDSU a 4-0 lead.
The Aztecs continued their hot hitting in the second inning, rallying for five runs on five hits to take a 9-0 lead.
OSU trailed 11-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard in the fifth. Brown led off the inning with a triple to the left-centerfield gap, and Duren followed with a double for his first-career RBI. Two batters later, Jordy Mercer delivered a two-run home run, his third of the season, to make the score 11-3.
The Cowboys' final run came in the seventh on an RBI single by Michael Dabbs.
Gardner suffered the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in just one inning of work. The loss snapped the senior right hander's streak of 10 consecutive wins dating back to the 2006 season and dropped him to 1-1 on the year.
Green and Nick Romero each had four RBIs for SDSU, while Troy Hanzawa was 3-for-4. J.R. Murphy (1-1) earned the win on the mound as he allowed three runs on six hits in five innings of work.
