ST. LOUIS  With the morning session at the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships completed, Oklahoma State is sixth in the team standings with 14 ½ points, thanks in part to bonus-point victories from 12th-seeded Jack Jensen at 184 pounds, fifth-seeded heavyweight Jared Rosholt and fourth-seeded Nathan Morgan at 141 pounds. Iowa is first with 19 points.
Jensen and Rosholt provided the highlights of the morning session with a pair of wins by fall for OSU. Jensen pinned Penn State's Phil Bomberger at the 3:36 mark. Rosholt controlled Pennsylvania's Trey McLean and was out to an 8-0 first-period lead before recording the fall with only three seconds left in the opening stanza.
Morgan was also a big winner for the Cowboys, notching 2 ½ team points with his 15-0 tech fall over Northern Illinois' Patrick McLemore that saw Morgan score a takedown, a reversal and five two-point nearfalls.

First round Match Summaries
125 pounds: Mark McKnight (PSU) dec. No. 12 Tyler Shinn (OSU); 5-1
12th-seeded Tyler Shinn was upset by Penn State's Mark McKnight, 5-1 to start the day. After an active but scoreless first period, Shinn chose down to start the second period. Early on in the period, McKnight was able to turn Shinn to his back and record a three-point nearfall. Working for the pin, McKnight was unable to finish against Shinn, who escaped with 17 seconds left in the period. Trailing, 3-1 to start the final period, Shinn cut McKnight loose immediately, but was unable to score any points. When McKnight's 1:33 riding time advantage was added in, he claimed a 5-1 win over the Cowboy sophomore.
133 pounds  No. 3 Coleman Scott dec. Jimmy Conroy (Pittsburgh); 4-0
Third-ranked Coleman Scott claimed a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh's Jimmy Conroy in his first-round matchup. Scott opened the scoring with a takedown at the 44-second mark of the first period. He rode Conroy out for the remainder of the period, then continued that theme by riding Conroy for the entire second period. With Scott choosing to be in the down position to start the third period, Conroy rode him for the first 51 seconds before Scott escaped to cap the scoring. Scott's 1:49 riding time advantage brought the final score to 4-0.
141 pounds  No. 4 Nathan Morgan tech fall Patrick McLemore (Northern Illinois), 15-0; 5:04
Fourth-ranked Nathan Morgan dominated Patrick McLemore of Northern Illinois in picking up a 15-0 technical fall victory that was stopped at the 5:04 mark of the match. Morgan started the onslaught with a takedown just 37 seconds into the match, then turned McLemore to his back twice for a pair of two-point nearfalls to bring the score to 6-0 at the end of the first period. Morgan chose down to start the second and scored a reversal at the 1:05 mark followed by three more two-point nearfalls before the period ended to extend his advantage to 14-0. McLemore chose the top position to start the final stanza, but when Morgan escaped just four seconds in, the match was stopped.
157 pounds  Newly McSpadden dec. Jarrett Hostetter (Millersville); 2-0
Newly McSpadden won his first-round match over Millersville's Jarrett Hostetter, 2-0, thanks largely to a suffocating ride in the third period. After a scoreless first period, McSpadden opened the second in the down position and escaped two seconds in to go up, 1-0. Neither wrestler was able to generate any offense in the rest of the second period. Holding a 1-0 lead to start the third, McSpadden rode Hostetter for the entire period and finished with a 1:58 riding time advantage to claim a 2-0 win.
165 pounds  Zack Shanaman (Pennsylvania) dec. No. 7 Jake Dieffenbach; 5-4
Seventh-seeded Jake Dieffenbach lost a 5-4 decision to Pennsylvania's Zack Shanaman in his first-round bout. Shanaman jumped to an early 2-0 lead by scoring a takedown at the 1:21 mark of the first period. Dieffenbach escaped four seconds later, but was taken down again with 11 ticks left on the clock to go down, 4-1. Dieffenbach chose the down position to start the second period and escaped just six seconds in before scoring a takedown with just one second remaining in the period to tie the score at 4-4. An early escape by Shanaman in the third period ended up being the difference in the match.
174 pounds - No. 9 Brandon Mason dec. Scott Giffin (Pennsylvania); 6-0
Ninth-ranked Brandon Mason mounted 3:21 of riding time as part of his 6-0 win over Pennsylvania's Scott Giffin in the first round. Mason started the scoring with a takedown at the 2:26 mark of the first period and rode Giffin for the remainder of the period. Mason chose the down position to start the second period and escaped seven seconds in for the only scoring of the period. Choosing neutral to start the third, Shanaman saw his hopes of an upset dashed when Mason took him down at the 59 second mark. With Mason's 3:21 of riding time factored in, he was a 6-0 winner.
184 pounds  No. 12 Jack Jensen fall Philip Bomberger (Penn State); 3:36
12th-seeded Jack Jensen pinned Penn State's Phil Bomberger in 3:36 in his first round match. After a scoreless first period, Jensen chose the down position to start the second period and scored a reversal just eight seconds in and turned Bomberger to his back shortly thereafter. Staying firmly on top of Bomberger, Jensen worked for the pin and eventually scored the fall at the 3:36 mark of the match.
285 pounds  No. 5 Jared Rosholt fall Trey McLean (Pennsylvania); 2:57
Fifth-seeded Jared Rosholt pinned Pennsylvania's Trey McLean at the 2:57 mark to put a cap on a solid OSU showing in the morning session. Rosholt scored a takedown 53 seconds into the match and added a three-point nearfall 22 seconds later to go up, 5-0. He then turned McLean to his back and was credited with a second three-point nearfall before eventually finishing the pin with three seconds left in the period.
